Considerable waste here, even having made the base plate seperate.
Skimmed up and faced to length
Looking very much like a candle stick, this is after a lot of swarf has come off. The blue'd end has already been turned to fit in the base plate. No, it wasnt turned without the tailstock present, I always run it back after finnishing for the day, as expansion is something you need to be aware of when turning. Likewise when you return it will be cold and shorter, so the tailstock would be loose.
